Cara Peacock, LCSW
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Therapist, I have over 20 years experience working with individuals and families experiencing a variety of challenges.
Some of these challenges include:
I have extensive knowledge of the developmental effects of trauma, attachment, and family transition. I have completed EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy training, Levels 1 & 2, and also have studied the Flash Technique which makes EMDR processing faster and easier. I have been trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) as well as the Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency framework (ARC). I have an eclectic approach which is practical and often skills-based. For many concerns, EMDR is my approach of choice. I am interested in what works. If what we're doing isn't working, let's try something else.
I worked for many years at the National Family Resiliency Center (formerly Children of Separation and Divorce Center) in Maryland, where I assisted separating/divorcing families navigate family transition and keep their children's mental health intact. Parents who are committed to their children's well-being but are experiencing conflict with each other, and perhaps negotiating the legal system, can still co-parent their children for the best outcomes, and I can help.
I have worked in community mental health clinics, private non-profit counseling agencies, and adoption agencies. I have worked extensively with children in foster care in Maryland and in Tennessee.
Finally, if I can't provide the type of therapy I believe best suited to your needs, I will let you know. I abide by the ethical guidelines of the National Association of Social Workers.
I began working with clients as a graduate intern in 1994, and received my Master's degree in Social Work, Clinical Families & Children Specialization, from the University of Maryland at Baltimore (UMAB) School of Social Work in 1996. I earned my undergraduate degree from St. Mary's College of Maryland in Psychology, summa cum laude, in 1994. I was originally licensed at the independent, clinical level in 1998 in Maryland. I have been licensed in the State of Tennessee since 2006.
I am qualified to provide licensure supervision to pre-professionals in the state of Tennessee.
On a personal note, I was inspired to become a therapist when therapy helped me greatly in my teen years. I have been married for over 20 years and have three smart and fun teenage to young adult children, who I truly enjoy. In my free time, I hang out with my kids, train and hike with my dogs, and watch British murder mysteries. :)
Some of these challenges include:
- Anxiety
- Phobias
- Trauma, PTSD, intrusive thoughts
- Parent/child relational issues
- Depression
- Separation/Divorce
- Relationships with difficult family members
- Codependency
- LGBTQ+ issues
- Parenting challenges of any type
